US paper manufacturer eyes UK market
A new paper manufacturer looks set to enter the UK printing market, it has been revealed.
US manufacturer Smart Papers has announced that it is considering extra distribution across Europe, leaving those in sales jobs with more products to choose from.
However Smart Papers chairman, Tim Needham, remarked that the company does not expect to "see an overcapacity" in the market.
He told Print Week: "We realise we have a lot of very fine competitors in the UK and European marketplace, but we feel we can cut out a niche."
The company is currently in discussion with several major distributors and expects to have its products on the market within the next 90 days, the website reports.
There has been increased interest in uncoated papers from manufacturers in the UK market, according to Justin Hobson, marketing director at Fenner Paper.
But with Smart Papers specialist range of over 20 brands featuring triple cast-coated and matt-coated printing papers, it is likely to remain unclear whether the products will take off among those in sales jobs.
