Do smoking sales executives take more leave?
Overweight smokers are the employees likely to take the most time off work, a recent survey suggested.
A poll by Aon Consulting discovered that 57 per cent of people believe heavy colleagues with a nicotine habit are the worst offenders for taking time off without the correct authorisation.
Sales executives who are notable for their regular cigarette breaks may risk the ire of their colleagues and bosses, according to Alex Bennett, head of health consulting with the pensions provider.
"Extra days off work means lost productivity, which hurts the bottom line," Mr Bennett said.
Some 45 per cent of those surveyed claimed that employees practicing flexible working tend to be more responsible about annual and sick leave than their colleagues who stick to traditional working patterns.
Karen Gill, founder of everywoman, this week claimed that the "number one issue" for working women is access to flexible employment patterns, noting that more should be done to embed these in Britain's business culture.
