New safety regulations 'to affect sales execs'

Sales executives should be aware that new legislation coming into force this Friday (January 16th) will give courts greater power to punish managers who breach health and safety rules, it has been claimed.

According to law firm DWF, the Health and Safety (Offences) Act will mean directors and senior managers could be treated as criminals by the courts and raises the maximum penalty that can be imposed from £5,000 to £20,000.

Head of regulatory at the company Steffan Groch said the new rules will mean sales executives must become more vigilant, as they could be considered guilty of neglect even for things they are not aware of.

"What was once considered a breach of regulations could in future become a criminal matter. We are likely to see tougher punishments, including more jail sentences, imposed on people in positions of authority," he added.
